All-electric homes
Just 1 in 4 US homes is fully electric today. More than 80 percent of new homes built are still connected to natural gas service for heating and cooking. But warmer winters in North America, advances in heat pump technology and changing sources of generation mean that all-electric homes are now feasible and cost-effective in much of the country. And studies by the Rocky Mountain Institute, a think tank, show that all-electric homes are cheaper to build, increasingly cheaper to operate, and produce no emissions on-site. This will create new markets for home automation and grid technology.
