Big data will enable urban wild-belts
Biodiversity activists in the UK are calling for a new urban-planning designation, "wild-belts", designed to safeguard biodiversity. "These stretches of designated terrain wouldn’t just crisscross the countryside around urban areas but delve deep into the heart of city centres, creating a continuous pathway along which nature could prosper."
These designations will be based on extensive and ongoing surveys using a variety of data capture methods, indicating that the urban wilds of the future will be among the city's most deeply digitally-curated spaces.
