"Energy reach" building codes replace gas bans
High-profile local bans on new natural gas hookups are giving way to broader adoption of codes that require all-electric construction, or higher energy performance standards from buildings that choose to install gas systems.
This points towards a future where new residential and commercial construction is heavily tilted towards all-electric, with powerful incentives for developers and consumers (including rebates for equipment like electric heat pumps) and fewer political obstacles for enabling regulations to be put in place.
