Fewer, more flexible office buildings
A major shift to remote work will spur a flight to quality in urban office space, requiring buildings to become more flexible to serve the kinds of functions that remain in central locations. "The majority of real estate professionals feel that more than 60 percent of employees may be spending more than 40 percent of their time working remotely, in comparison to 20 percent of staff working 20 percent of their time remotely pre-COVID-19."
This points towards new building designs, with new materials, and retrofits of existing buildings with urban tech playing a big role in reducing costs and increasing flexibility.
