Predicting pavement failure

A slew of firms are helping cities "make informed pavement management decisions" by using cameras mounted on city vehicles to conduct ongoing surveys of road surface conditions. RoadBotics reduces this complex information to a 0-100 index that can quickly provide a high level, as well as granular view for planning repaving campaigns as well as pothole repairs.

This points towards a future where city vehicles are used as sensing platforms to monitor and perform predictive failure analysis on all sorts of public infrastructure, from utility poles to trees to buildings.
