Self-assembling, self-driving electric barges

Amsterdam, like many historical cities, has a robust infrastructure for low-carbon goods movement that can also reduce congestion on city streets—its waterways. That's the idea behind Roboat, a project that is developing a fleet of self-driving canal barges which can self-assemble into larger vessels.

These vessels are suitable for moving cargo and passenger and point towards a future where urban waterways once again serve as low-carbon transport corridors. Additionally, they demonstrate a novel site for low-risk experimentation with technologies for automated mobility.
